Forensic Mail Archiver (FMACL) extracts Outlook email, notes,
tasks, contacts, calendar and journal entries from one or more Outlook
PST files. Extracted items are saved as Outlook MSG, Unicode MSG, RFC822
compliant EML, Text, or HTML files. All attachments are maintained within
each MSG or RFC822 message. The PST folder structure is duplicated on the
local file system. The generated messages are ready for use with an indexing
tool such as dtSearch®, to burn to CD/DVD media, for use in email archiving
products, or when the Bates naming option is selected - for native file review
in a litigation database.
FMACL is a deceptively simple to operate, yet decidely powerful utility to "rip"
(archive, unbundle) PST files into their component parts. It is compatible
with Unicode PSTs, which means that it fully supports foreign language
character sets (The conversion machine's operating system should have the
appropriate MicroSoft foreign language packs installed to support PSTs of a
particular foreign language).
Email archive appliance users find it handy to transform legacy PST files into
.EML or .MSG messages for processing by their appliances. Transforming PST
files into .EML files is a quick way to migrate data from Outlook to Outlook
Express, Windows Vista Mail, etc.. Utilities are available to further process .EML
files into MBOX files, which allow you to port mail to MBOX compatible clients
(e.g. Thunderbird, Linux, MAC, etc.).
No PST preparation is required. The user simply types a command line string to
begin the conversion. All PST files located in subdirectories below the
specified input directory are located recursively. Prerequisites are an
Outlook 2003/2007 client and Windows XP or Vista.
Selecting the De-duplication option causes all extracted messages to be checked for
duplicates as the files are written to disk. Duplicate messages are not written
to disk. The duplicate check is performed across all the PSTs in the batch being
run (Globally) or PST by PST (Custodian).
File Naming options:
1 = Index + EntryID.
2 = Index + Subject.
3 = Index + Sender.
4 = Index + EntryID + Subject + Sender
5 = Index + Subject + Sender + EntryID
6 = Index + Sender + Subject + EntryID
7 = Index + CreationTime + Sender + Subject
8 = Sent TIme + Index + Sender + Subject
9 = CreationTIme + Index + Sender + Subject
10 = Bates Numbers
Report Only or Write modes:
Create .MSG/.EML files or just scan PSTs to generate a report of the
folders/files contained within each PST. Report Only mode is a useful method to
identify large PSTs files that you may not want/need to process.
